Welcome to The Wellness Community of Central Indiana.

Cancer… it can be a difficult and lonely road. Trying to balance doctor's appointments, treatments, and side effects with life, work, and family can deplete even the most determined. Coping with the emotional burden can be exhausting.

When first diagnosed with cancer, many people experience a sense of isolation, a perceived loss of control, and feelings of hopelessness. In fact, most people dealing with a cancer diagnosis experience a wide range of emotions throughout the course of their cancer.

Unfortunately, all too often the practical and medical issues push the psychological and emotional issues aside. Patients often keep their deepest fears and worries to themselves, reluctant to share thoughts of hopelessness and isolation with family members who are supporting and caring for them. Family members and caregivers sometimes keep their deepest emotions to themselves as well, protecting the patient from feelings of anxiety, despair and even anger.

…because no one should have to face cancer alone!

The Wellness Community can help… and, it's FREE!

Our Mission:
The mission of The Wellness Community is to help people affected by cancer enhance their health and well-being through participation in a professional program of emotional support, education, and hope.

Board of Trustees:
We owe all that we are to our board of trustees. View the board here.

Our Philosophy:
"Cancer patients who participate in their fight for recovery, along with their health care team-rather than being hopeless, helpless, passive victims of the disease-will improve the quality of their lives and may enhance the possibility of their recovery."

Harold H. Benjamin, Ph.D. - Founder, The Wellness Community

Our Beliefs:

  • Many, many people recover from cancer.
  • Cancer patients can benefit from sharing experiences and support with others, and need not be alone.
  • Cancer patients can participate in their recovery along with their healthcare team.
  • Family members and friends of an individual with cancer, including children, can also benefit from information and support.
  • By reducing isolation, managing stress, and having hope, cancer patients can enhance their quality of life, positively affect their immune system, and gain strength in the fight for recovery.
  • There is Hope.

"I knew from the beginning that I needed to be with other people experiencing a family member with cancer. TWC gave me that opportunity. I started attending my Family Group because I needed to get some help and support. Eventually, I attended group because others needed me to share, understand, and care."
-Ron Vaught
